It’s a very nutritious, tasty and healthy meal for babies and kids and is the easiest and fastest homemade wholesome food for babies and is far better fresh and healthy than any commercial instant foods like cerelac, easum, blevit……etc. This can be given once your baby turns 6 months of age. Best to be given as breakfast or evening snack. This porridge covers all the nutritional requirements of the babies. Nutritional value of its ingredients is as follows:
Sapodilla: The exceptionally sweet and malty flavor of the sapodilla fruit is very much liked by babies and babies enjoy eating it. It also helps babies in gaining weight and is a very rich source of vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, vitamin-c, minerals like calcium and iron, and proteins which are essential for the healthy growth of babies. Besides all these it is rich in Dietary fibre which helps in maintaining a healthy digestive system in babies.
Almond: Everyone is fond of almonds, so do the babies. Babies love the nutty flavor of almonds. Almonds are a rich source of Vitamin D, A, C, B12 Calcium, Iron, essential fats and dietary fibers which are essential for healthy growth and development in babies.
Whole Wheat Flour: Whole wheat flour is a whole meal by itself. It is rich in fibers, vitamins, A, D, C, Iron, calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, and healthy fat, proteins and carbohydrates.
Clarified butter or Ghee: Ghee contains DHA and Omega-3-Fatty acids which are essential for healthy brain development in kids.
Milk: Everyone is aware of the importance of milk for babies and how rich it is in nutritional value . Here I have used whole cow’s milk but you can also use formula milk if you like.
Hence by bringing all these together we make a healthy and nutritious meal for babies which contains the goodness of a grain, raw fruit, dry fruit, milk and ghee. Thus making it a sumptuous meal for kids and babies.

Almond & Sapodilla Porridge for Babies / Badam aur Cheeku hareera
Instructions
Firstly deskin and deseed the sapodilla and mash it in a bowl and keep aside.
Melt the ghee in a small sauce pan on a low flame.
On low-medium heat add whole wheat flour to ghee and roast the flour in the ghee by continuous stirring until the flour turns light golden in color and leaves nice aroma.
Now lower the flame and add almond powder and roast for about 10-15 seconds.
Switch off the flame and add milk to it and mix thoroughly so that there are no lumps of the flour. Then switch on the flame and cook this mixture on medium-high heat for about 3 minutes by continuous stirring so that the mixture doesn't stick to the bottom of the sauce pan. At this point, if required you can add additional milk to adjust the consistency as the mixture gets thick on heating. Now remove it from flame and keep aside.
Add this cooked flour and almond mixture to the mashed sapodilla and mix well. Feed the baby when its luke warm.
Recipe Notes
If you prefer to add formula milk or breast milk instead of cow's milk then instead of adding milk add water to the flour and mix well and cook until it thickens and is a bit more thicker than the babies usual meal. Then remove from flame and add mashed sapodilla and when it cools down a bit add baby's usual formula milk or breast milk and adjust consistency.
Formula milk or breast milk shouldn't be boiled. So do not add formula milk or breast milk while cooking. Hence add water and cook it a bit thicker than baby's usual meal consistency so that yu can add formula milk or breast milk later and adjust consistency as required
Adding sugar or salt isn't preferred to this meal as the sapodilla itself imparts natural sweetness you to the meal.
