Gulab jamun is a delicious Indian Dessert relished by people all over the world. Gulab jamun is an integral part of Indian thali. Almost every household of any community or religion makes gulab jamun in India, thus making it one of the favorite desserts of Indians. Gulab jamun is an easy dessert in which balls made of a mixture of milk solids and flour are fried and sweetened by dipping them in sugar syrup.
Gulab Jamun – – For the jamuns: Khoya / Mawa, Sugar, Cardamom powder / Elaichi powder, Maida / All pupose flour, Baking powder, Baking Soda / Sodium Bicarbonate, Ghee / Clarified butter ((Oil+Ghee mixed for deep frying jamuns)), oil ((Oil+Ghee mixed for deep frying jamuns)), For the Sugar Syrup: Sugar, water, Saffron Strands, Cardamom pods ((coarsely crushed)), , First make the sugar syrup by adding water, sugar, saffron and cardamom to a medium sized cooking pot. Allow it to boil for about 5 minutes. Keep aside.; Now prepare the dough for the jamuns in a bowl by adding khoya, sugar, cardamom powder, all purpose flour, baking powder and baking soda. Knead for about a minute into a soft dough. Allow it to stand for about 3-5 minutes.; Meanwhile grease a plate or tray will oil and keep aside. Now heat oil mixed will ghee in kadai or vessel on a low-medium flame for deepfrying the jamuns.; When the oil is getting heated up make small balls of the dough and place them on the greased plate. Make sure there are no cracks in the balls. ; When the oil is hot fry these balls in small batches of 5 to 6 on a low-medium flame untill they turn golden brown in color.; Meanwhile, when you are frying the jamuns heat the sugar syrup and strain it in another broad vessel or container and keep aside. Once the jamuns are cooked and turn golden brown in color transfer them immediately into the sugar syrup. Repeat the same with the remaining jamuns. Allow them to stand in the sugar syrup for about half an hour. That's it, Gulab Jamuns are ready to serve.; ; – <ol>
<li>While preparing the balls make sure they are medium sized, do not make very large balls as they won't get cooked thoroughly and also keep in mind that balls increase in size when they absorb sugar syrup. Hence to make perfect sized gulab
